After visiting the Taj Mahal in Agra earlier in the day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday toured Jaipur’s Amber Fort along with his wife, Jeanette D Rubio. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor was also present during the visit.
Rubio’s Rajasthan trip comes a day before the Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, where India, the United States, Australia and Japan are expected to discuss regional security challenges, including developments in the Indo-Pacific and tensions in West Asia.

Earlier in the day, Rubio and his wife spent nearly one and a half hours at the Taj Mahal. In the visitors’ book, Rubio wrote: “Thank you for allowing us to visit one of the true treasures of the World.”
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor later shared glimpses from the visit and described the Taj Mahal as a “breathtaking symbol of India’s extraordinary heritage and craftsmanship”.
Marco Rubio’s India visit before Quad Summit
Rubio is on a four-day visit to India and has already held a series of high-level engagements since arriving in the country.
He began the visit in Kolkata with a stop at the Missionaries of Charity. During his stay in New Delhi, Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held delegation-level discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He also met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
The Quad foreign ministers’ meeting is scheduled to take place on May 26 under the chairmanship of Jaishankar.
Taj Mahal continues to attract world leaders
The Taj Mahal has frequently featured in the itineraries of visiting global leaders.
Last year, US Vice President JD Vance visited the monument with his wife Usha Vance and their children Vivek, Mirabel and Ewan.
US President Donald Trump had also toured the monument during his first term along with First Lady Melania Trump. During that visit, Trump called the Taj Mahal a “timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian culture”.
The high-level Quad meeting this week is expected to focus on regional security coordination and emerging geopolitical challenges across the Indo-Pacific region.
